For the Love of India

This is the story of Henry Martyn who was a missionary to India and Persia during the early 1800’s. He was blessed by God with a keen intellect and a gift for languages.

Henry came to Christ while in college. From that point forward, he was dedicated to God’s service. The life of Mr. Martyn is particularly inspiring because he suffered so much with sickness, yet was able to accomplish great things in such a short time.

While on the ship to India, he would preach and teach the word of God, but very few people were concerned for their eternal soul. This was also the same attitude he found in much of India. Many of the native people did not like Henry because he was English.

Henry preached, studied language, and even opened schools. Through it all, Bible translation was Henry’s calling from God. In just a few years, he translated the New Testament into Hindustani, Persian, and Arabic. What eternal value do these translations have today? Only God knows.

‘I know no parallel to these achievements of Henry Martyn … the born translator. He masters grammar, observes idioms, accumulates vocabulary, reads and listens, corrects and even reconstructs. Above all, he prays …’ - Canon W. J. Edmonds

What was Henry Martyn’s secret? As noted in the quote above - he prays.

Ready for Winter…. At Last!

Well, you’re probably wondering what it is that could have kept us busy for sooooooo long that we haven’t been able to blog lately.

Time has finally allowed for an explanation. We’ve been doing fencing, fencing, and more fencing. We’ve been fencing in the rain, fencing in the snow, fencing in the mud, fencing when it’s warm, fencing in the cold, fencing when we’re frozen, fencing in the day, fencing in the night. Fencing all the time!!! Not quite. :)

When we weren’t fencing we were hauling gravel, dirt, rocks, and manure, or we were pounding or pulling posts, or taking down the electric fences for the year, moving bale rings, scooping snow, trimming hooves, finding more hay (more on that later), getting grain, finishing the garden, fixing the root cellar, butchering deer, etc., etc., etc.!

And in between all that, we were trying to live our normal daily lives.

We will be posting all those posts we’ve been meaning to post for the last two or three months. Hope you will enjoy them! Check below starting with posts dated after October 1st…more still to come.

We’re Snowed Under

The snow has come and we’re still racing against time. Presently we’re “snowed under”. :)

But snow does come and go, so … we’ll keep on digging “out” …. be back soon.

Racing Against Time

Our blog has been sorely neglected, but we’ve been on a race against time. Winter is coming and there has been so much to do that all of us have been working hard from morning to night (late night, I might add) with hardly a break. We will have posts coming soon of all that has been happening here.

We're digging ourselves a deep hole! (for our root cellar) :)

Leopold goes back home.

We had been thinking about breeding Lola, our female llama. One day, Mike saw some llamas on his way to work. The next day, he stopped and asked about them. The owner said we could use his male for breeding purposes … just let him know when.

Well, earlier this month, the owner brought him over. He (the llama) was friendly enough, so there was no real danger to be expected from him. The children promptly named him Leopold. :)

After several weeks with us, or rather, with Lola, it was time for Leopold to go home. We will know in about eleven months if he did his job.

Family (Cow) Pictures

It has finally happened - six cows, three calves, and six people in one photo (the seventh person had to take the pictures)! It required a lot of patience and many, many shots to come up with a nice one. Daddy and Mommy were the primary photographers, alternating who was in the picture and who was taking the pictures.

Enjoy!

Praying Mantis

Crystal found a praying mantis on our recently purchased big round bales.

...and the front - Here's looking at you :)

— By the way, he (or she) went back across the road to do the things that praying mantis’ do. :)

First Frost

We woke up to the first frost of the season. Brrr. Where did the summer go?

The Oreo Bunch

Morning Glory had more kittens - a litter of one black, one white, and another black.

Keagan holds Cacao, Orville, and Panther.

Orville says, 'Mine is mine'.                We're ready for more.

Crystal enjoys taking care of the Oreo Bunch.

Clothes ‘Blow Dryer’

Great fast-drying clothes day.
